|An educational organization dedicated to creating a more peaceable and humane world.
Teach Compassion was founded in 2006 as a project at the University of Notre Dame, in collaboration with the South Bend Community School Corporation. It was designed to foster compassion, empathy, and social responsibility in young people. Students from the university worked in third- to sixth-grade classrooms across the school district, teaching children about issues of environmental ethics, animal protection, cultural diversity and peace building.
The Teach Compassion curriculum is now available for teachers, administrators, after-school programs and humane educators who would like to implement the program in their school. The curriculum consists of a comprehensive, ten-week unit as well as materials such as Reflective Writing Journals and a Teacher Handbook. Lessons are designed to foster critical thinking and creativity, with hands-on, engaging activities.
